What Are Reading Glasses?

Reading glasses are designed to help manage a specific medical condition, known as presbyopia, which happens naturally to your eyesight as you age.

Over time, it becomes harder for your eyes for focus on things near them, which is why you find it easier to read a paper held at arm's-length instead of where you used to hold it. Reading glasses make things larger, which makes it easier for your eyes to focus on.

Can I use reading glasses instead of my prescription?

If you don’t need your prescription lenses for reading, a pair of reading glasses could be a great way of supplementing your medical frames before making the jump to prescription bifocals.

If you already have a prescription for lenses that you wear while reading, we recommend continuing to do so. Unlike reading glasses, which are designed to primarily correct issues caused by presbyopia, prescription glasses can help deal with a variety of conditions. If you have a prescription, reading glasses will still make text appear larger, but they won’t correct any other issues that might make it difficult for you to read.

Is it safe to wear reading glasses all day?

Since reading glasses work by magnifying whatever you’re looking at, we recommend wearing them only when you need the extra boost they provide. Attempting to view things off in the distance while wearing reading glasses can causes unnecessary eye-strain, or make far-off objects appear out of focus.

Because bifocal and progressive glasses only provide magnification in a portion of a lens, people wearing them can switch between reading and other activities easily. If you don’t want to take off your reading glasses between uses, we recommend you consider frames that offer either traditional bifocal, or progressive no-line lens options.

How do you choose what brands to carry?

Our buyers love the world of fashion, and they’re always on the lookout for hot new designers offering products we think customers like you will love. We only carry high quality, fashionable frames because we’re committed to having a collection that’s better than you can find anywhere else. Before we choose to carry a product it has to pass three tests:

  • It has to be fashionable.
  • It has to be well-made.
  • It has to come with a 90 day warranty
  • We have to be authorized to offer it to our customers.

Why did you stop carrying my favorite style?

Reading glasses designs, like anything else in fashion, are constantly evolving. New colors, patterns, and styles become popular while others fade in popularity. To make room in their lineup for these new frames, designers might discontinue older readers.

If you can’t find your favorite style of glasses, we’ll try to help you find something to replace them with. Contact our customer service team and let them know about the style you’re looking for, and we’ll search our inventory to try to find the closest alternative.

Do you have physical stores?

Yes we do! We currently operate three Reading Glasses To Go retail locations, as well as our Goo Goo Eyes eyecare center. We operate out of Texas, but also have a location in Oklahoma. Use our store locator to learn more.

Do you do prescription lenses?

We do not offer prescription glasses for sale through our website, but if you found a pair of frames you love and want to get prescriptions for them, you do have two options available:

  • Most of our frames are compatible with prescription lenses. Speak with our customer service team and we’ll get you the exact measurements your eye doctor will need to make lenses that fit.
  • If you have your prescription, we can order the lenses and install them for you. Contact customer service and give them your prescription and we’ll provide you with a cost quote.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes! We ship to countries around the world. To have your order qualify, you must pay for the order using a credit card or international money order and live in one of the countries listed on our shipping info page.

What is your return policy?

30 days for you to try on the glasses in the comfort of your own home and decide if you love them. If you don’t, send them back. As long as you live in the US, we’ll even cover return shipping. Our return policy page has more information, but it’s really that simple. 30 days, no questions asked.
